Let me start off by saying, this post is not about "bashing" single mothers, taking away from the strength they have in raising kids on their own, or slighting them in anyway. I am going on sixteen years of marriage with my husband and count it a blessing to have such a wonderful man leading my children. I have been a single mother however, so I understand the struggles involved.
With that being said, every single Father's Day, we are bombarded by social media posts that seek to take the spotlight off of the men the day was created for: FATHERS. On Mother's Day, moms all over the world are showered with adoration, flowers, candy, gift baskets, jewelry and dinners at fancy restaurants. Single father's (yes they exist), do not attempt a "holiday coup" by heralding their single fatherhood.
Meanwhile, on Father's Day, men get sub-par gifts, are expected to BBQ when it's their day off and loads of bitter single women making the day about how their baby daddy "ain't sh*t", or single mothers who wish to be celebrated because they feel they are both mother and father. Hell, on Mothers Day, Facebook even gave moms a special "flower reaction." I looked all day, couldn't find anything for the fathers.
Ladies let's be clear: as awesome of a single mother you may be, you are NOT a father. Do you have to compensate for the absence of a father? Absolutely. Can you actually take the place of a father? No ma'am. As much love and discipline you can place in your children, you as a mother can never fully teach a your son how to be a man. You can not in entirety, teach your daughter what a man worthy of her love looks like. That is why Father's are so important in a child's life.
But sometimes, that's just not how it works out. Ladies, mothers, we clearly recognize your strengths and importance, hence why Mother's Day is celebrated with so much more fervor than Father's Day. Can we please stop trying to take over Father's Day, diminishing the celebration of these GREAT fathers out here? Can we stop with the "dead beat baby daddy" bashing on a day NOT meant for them?
Mom's, you had your day last month. Prayerfully, no single father's rained on your parade. Whether you are a married or single mother, you are awesome. Celebrate on Mother's Day. If you are a married or single father, you too are awesome! Today is YOUR DAY!
And let's not forget, their are plenty of grand pops, uncles, brothers and cousins playing the role of father in many children's lives. Ladies, if the father of your child(ren) are not active in their lives, instead of taking to social media to vent your bitterness or place yourself in the role of a father, celebrate the men in your life who are exemplary dads! Your uncles, brothers, cousins, friends...
Let's let these men be great! Happy Father's Day to all the men out here who are present, accounted for and active in their children's lives! You are appreciated!
Today at around 7:00 am, a gunman walked onto a field where Republicans were practicing for the annual baseball fundraising game against the Democrats. James Hodgkinson, 66 of Belleville, IL was stated to have asked if the persons on the field were "Republican or Democrat." Upon learning that they were in fact GOP leaders, Hodgkinson opened fire hitting House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, along with a Capital Police officer, a. congressional staffer and a lobbyist. Hodgkinson engaged in a gun fight where he was shot and died from his injuries at a local D.C. hospital.
Scalise was listed in critical condition after surgery while the other three victims were stable and recovering. Although police are saying they have no motive, Hodgkinson clearly despised the GOP, and especially President Donald Trump. Hodgkinson also ranted against Hillary Clinton. Hodgkinson was a staunch supporter of Senator Bernie Sanders, claiming to have worked on Sanders campaign, although Sanders camp denounces any record of this claim.
Meanwhile, in San Francisco:
Around 8:55 am (PST), a UPS employee opened fired at the facility located at 320 San Bruno Ave in San Francisco, killing three people before turning the gun on himself. The shooter was identified as Jimmy Lam, a current UPS employer. Although no photos have been released of Lam as of the time of this post, but sources say Lam had a history of mental illness and was estranged from his wife. Only one victim has been identied as 46 year old UPS driver, Mike Lefiti. The remaining two victims will not be identified until family is notified.
My thoughts are with each and every person affected by the activities in Alexandria and San Francisco. No one expects to be shot simply playing baseball or going to work to make a living. But this is becoming a sad and all too familiar reality in the United States. Racial and political tensions are at an all time high. As people struggle with trying to stay afloat in an economy that continues to squeeze the majority of the working class, mental illness is also on the rise. Yet, so are gun sales.
Are we ready to talk about mental illness and gun access?
Let me start off by saying, I am not "anti-gun." I am a gun owner myself. However, it is clear that we have a direct link with mental illness, easy gun access and mass shootings. If you knew that a person in your life suffered from mental health issues, would you personally put a firearm in their hand? The answer I would hope, would be a quick NO. So shouldn't we apply that same common sense with regards to requiring criminal AND mental health background checks on an individual seeking to purchase a firearm? I know, "ammosexuals" will argue that there are still illegal methods of obtaining a firearm. While that is a problem of another sort, let's be clear that the kid on the Southside of Chicago who bought a firearm off the street may be a threat to someone, they are not a candidate of a mass shooting at a school, place of business etc.
While I fully support citizens having the right to "bear arms" I also support citizens being protected by laws put in place to screen those citizens buying firearms. We have to start ensuring, as much as possible, that every gun sale, no matter where, has mandatory mental health screenings along with the basic criminal background checks. More so, we must start addressing the conditions that allow mental illness to thrive and provide affordable if not FREE mental health care services to those in need. We have all heard the saying "Hurt people hurt people." This statement is resonating in a devastating manner to many people in this country daily. We all have a responsibility, responsible gun owner or gun hater, to fix this mess and quick. Write to your State Rep and demand they take a serious approach to mental health and implementing sensible gun laws to protect us all. I pray myself, my family, and those of you reading this blog, that we are not the next victims. But prayer isn't enough. It is time to ACT.
It really upsets me when I read stories like this where we as Black consumers are treated like second-class citizens. Usually, our money is wanted, just not our actual PRESENCE!
Well apparently, in Miami, our money isn't good enough either! From hotels, to restaurants to parking garages and retail stores, Black patrons are finding themselves feeling like they stepped into the "Twilight Zone", or perhaps, the "Jim Crow" zone.
While we can all agree that this treatment is not only unacceptable in 2017 and quite infuriating, the question remains: When will we get tired of spending where we are not respected?
Listen, I get it, Miami is beautiful. It's a paradise. But how much fun can you actually have vacationing somewhere that you're completely uncomfortable in? How can you spend your hard earned money in venues and stores where you are thought of as "not worthy?"
The truth is, we do it daily! There are businesses out here who take money from Black consumers and could care LESS about US. I long for the day when we as an intelligent, power-holding people can put our internal differences aside, come together and began building up our communities, incorporating our own banks and businesses on a larger scale and put our money where it belongs and will actually work for US!

Remember how our current Commander in Chief constantly complained about the amount of times our former Commnder in Chief went golfing? If not, look above! In a short and tumultuous month "on the job", Trump has already gone golfing six times. Per usual, there are crickets sitting on the sideline failing to be outraged over Trumps poor performance as CIC and his extremely excessive leisure traveling and golf excursions.
There was absolutely NOTHING Obama could do that didn't spark outrage, protest and even racist calls for his "lynching." From playing a round of golf, to visiting his family in Hawaii, to fist-bumping his wife, literally NOTHING the man did professionally or personally didn't draw criticism. The cries from Trump to rile up his "not so bright" supporters by convincing them that the Obamas were costing them their life savings going on vacation were annoying and non-stop. Check out a couple of his Twitter rants below.
Oh but let's not even discuss the fact that our "First Lady", Melanie is costing taxpayers $400.000 per DAY due to having to double up on Secret Service protection in NYC since she refuses to assume her role in the White House. And what about the Trumpsters travel expenses thus far? Try a whopping $11.3 million in one month compared to the $12.1 million traveling expenses for the Obama family for an entire YEAR. The hypocrisy is very clear and stinks worse than five day old hot garbage.
Im just going to sit back, sip this tea and wait for the proverbial s#%t to hit the fan when his supporters wake up and realize their "Great White Hope" is actually a terrible orange nightmare.
The 9th Circuit Federal Appeals Court had ruled against reinstating Trumps Muslim travel ban. The unanimous ruling from a three-judge panel means that citizens of seven majority-Muslim countries will continue to be able to travel to the US, despite Trump's executive order last month.
"On the one hand, the public has a powerful interest in national security and in the ability of an elected president to enact policies," the judges wrote. "And on the other, the public also has an interest in free flow of travel, in avoiding separation of families, and in freedom from discrimination. We need not characterize the public interest more definitely than this... The emergency motion for a stay pending appeal is denied." The Justice Department is in the process of reviewing the courts decision.
True to fashion, instead of making an official statement to the press, Trump immediately took to Twitter to tweet (in all caps) his next plan of action:
Trump has been slamming judges and courts left and right this week because of course, they disagree with him and seek to uphold the Constitution. A thing Trump seems to love ignoring. This is sure to be a long battle a a wasteful one as well. Stay tuned...
The Superbowl has been over. It was a nail-biter for every Patriots and Falcons fan, or just those of us who love to see a great game. I have to admit, I was rooting for the Falcons to pull out the win over the Patriots because, well as a 30 year football fan, I just don't like the Patriots. And of course, there's whole "cheating" thing. Kind of reminds me of the "patriots" of this country in that they will do whatever it takes to hold on to their "power" and "privilege."
As much as I dislike the New England Patriots, I was very supportive of a select few Black Patriots who chose to decline the offer to visit Trump at the White House. Why should they? This is by far, one of the most divisive, hate-inducing, vomit-inducing "Presidents" in our lifetime. Why would a Black man want to stand in the midst of a man who really, deep down, thinks nothing of them? Oh, but you're great at "throwing/catching" that ball and "running."
Martellus Bennett and Devin McCourty are two of several Patriots that will not honor the tradition of meeting with the President. "I'm not going to the White House," McCourty said in a text to Time. "Basic reason for me is I don't feel accepted in the White House. With the president having so many strong opinions and prejudices I believe certain people might feel accepted there while others won't."
That decision should be understood and accepted correct? Surely just like Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the anthem for justice was embraced...right? Oh wait....
Brainwashed and questionably braid DEAD Trump supporters quickly took to their favorite pass time, bitching about people taking a stance against right-wing BS and man were they hot. Check out some of the tweets below:
The hypocrisy of the predominantly White Trump supporters is both astounding and infuriating. I personally have had enough of "European immigrants" to this country attempting to tell the very BLACK people who's ancestors built it, what is "American or UnAmerican." #sitchoassdown Hashtag that please. I am beyond sick and tired of the "privileged people" in this country cheering on when a fellow privilegeer invokes his or her super powers, but can't seem to grasp why a Black man will not support a President who has done nothing but slap marginalized groups in the face.
Blacks in this country can not protest, kneel, boycott, walk out or anything else that hurts Whites feelings or make them "uncomfortable." Well guess what? We've been "uncomfortable" in this country for quite some time. No. Stating this, fighting for true equality or protesting does not make us any less "American" than YOU. In fact, it makes us more American. That is what the military actually fought for (no for a flag and song), but for EVERY American to have the right to stand up and protest those issues that affect them.
I support the members of the Patriots who have taken a stand for what they believe and will not shake the hand of the current Fascist in Chief. But...I still don't like your team!
Officials in San Antonio have confirmed that one person is dead and five others injured in an apparent robbery attempt at Rolling Oaks Mall. The robbery took place at the KAY Jewelers inside the mall.
According to police, the two suspects were confronted by two mall goers when one suspect shot and killed one of the Good Samaritans. The other Good Samaritan, who has a conceal carry license, shot and wounded that suspect. The other suspect then ran through the mall shooting randomly as he ran. At least two people were shot and three additional people injured, confirms Leslie Garza, San Antonio mayor's director of communication.
Facebook created a Safety Check page for residents of San Antonio to let family and friends know they are safe.

Black Twitter is giving no sympathy at all to Stacey Dash, who just found herself fired from FOX. The former actress turned political news correspondent is receiving a hilarious "farewell party." A fox news spokesperson confirmed that Dash, along with Ed Rollins and George Wills, would not have their 2017 contracts renewed. Twitter immediately erupted into a sea of memes and GIF's celebrating the news.
Dash and her disgusting comments on race, Prince, and transgender rights found her having her "Black card" revoked, but it was her very vocal support of Trump that put her at the top of Black Twitter's hit list. Check out some of the hilarious responses below!
A video has been released showing five Fontana police officers, guns drawn, cornering a mentally ill man before fatally shooting him. The incident took place on November 22, 2015 however, the video was just released this week to the family. James Hall, 47, who was legally blind and mentally ill, was at the back of a convenience store before a police officer opened fire on him, killing him.
The surveillance images seem to contradict the officer's account that Hall was in possession of a knife and advancing towards them. Hall seems to have shifted his weight between two soda fountains before being fatally shot. Attorney Mark Geragos stated “It’s a disturbing video indictment of the officers. The video puts the lie to the obviously falsified police account of what happened. In fact, this was an execution.”
The video is disturbing and graphic showing that at no time did Hall threaten the officers, nor lunged at them with any weapon. A lawsuit filed by the San Bernardino County Superior Court alleges that the officers involved escalated a peaceful encounter with Hall, into a conflict that ended with deadly and unnecessary force.
I still have to wonder, WHY do we trust police with guns to deescalate encounters with the mentally ill? These people are not trained to work with those suffering from bi-polar or schizoaffective disorders. This truth is being proven over and over and we see a spike in police-involved shootings of mentally ill persons.
This is a blog that needs no references. It needs no "professionalism". It needs no one else's approval or thumbs up. This blog post is for ME and letting the world know that I am grateful to the President Barack Obama and his wife, our distinguished First Lady, Michelle Obama. Sigh....where do I start? Let me go back to 2008. It was my sixth time voting. I remember this election was different than any other I had ever voted in.
I remember the excitement seeing a family who resembled mine, running for the highest office in the world and thinking "Is this REAL?" I didn't plan on voting for you based solely on the fact that you would be the first African-American President EVER. My husband and I listened to the campaign promises and the message of hope. After the previous eight years of feeling hopeless, I sensed this would be the election that would change this country for the better and move us forward, breaking down barriers.
As I headed to the polls, I cast for my vote, went home and anxiously awaited the results, biting almost all of my nails off in the process. Then the news: "Barack Obama has won the Presidency of the United States." I think I almost fainted. I know I screamed and ran through every square foot of my home with husband and children chasing me down. I couldn't believe that our country had progressed so much that we now had our first African American President! WHAT??!
Over the next four years, my euphoria had turned into shock and dismay as I watched a Congress attempt to block every measure you tried to implement to help Americans. Not because they were "bad ideas", but merely because they wanted you to fail. They did not want the first African American President to be successful. They wanted you to fall on your face so they could say "See, we told you!"
You spoke out against the senseless deaths of Black citizens across this country by police. They called you "anti-cop." You refused to blame all Muslims for the actions of those misusing the religion of Islam to perpetuate violence in its name. They called you a "terrorist" and "Anti-American." You were the only sitting President who was required to show a birth certificate to prove your citizenship, even then, they called it "forged."
They talked about you beautiful wife, your beautiful daughters for no other reason than they were Black like you. Your entire family has exuded nothing but grace and kindness in the face of such hatred and ignorance. They did everything in their power to make sure you remembered that you were a Black man and that you could never be successful or more intelligent the. They made memes and posters and effigies of you hanging and burning, all the while trying to convince us that "We're not racist."
But while I speak on the racist faction of this country, let me not forget to address the ones in our own community who for some reason, thought that your Presidency meant that you were here only to serve "us." Those who thought things for our communities were going to change as if you had a magic wand. As if your power was enough to change an entire system that has always marginalized us. Yes, you by yourself Mr. President, was expected to single-handedly, change a centuries old system within eight years.
I may not have agreed with everything you have done. I may even feel a little more could have been done. But one thing I can say without blinking an eye is that you sir, along with your beautiful wife, did the absolute BEST that you could do with the cards you were dealt. You endured eight years of the ugliest this country has to offer. You have been thrown bricks of racism even while holding the most powerful position in the world while people say it doesn't exist BECAUSE your were in this position.
I have watched you and your entire family "go high when they went low." I have watched First Lady Michelle pour her heart out for the people of this country and do so with style, class and a realness personified. I have watched your Sasha and Malia grow up before my eyes from two little girls thrown into a crazy world of politics, into two elegant young ladies with good heads on their shoulders and a future so bright, it could dim the sun.
